Teeth
sculpting, moulding

Using WED clay, I sculpted a variation of teeth sizes. These were sulpted so that I could make resin teeth to put into my sculpt, so I can sculpt around them, then remove them before moulding, leaving me with a socket to put teeth into. To do this I used Fast Cast Resin.

Tindall, P. 2012.

These teeth were made using clear cast resin, which was then pigmented with white polyeurathane pigment. The teeth were then painted using FW Ink, diluted with alcohol.

The paintjob is then sealed with a clear lacquer.

Using clear casting resin, I decided to try and pigment this using oil paint. Then to achieve the correct colouring, I will try skin illustrator and see if this is appropriate.
I expected the teeth to come out clear, however they did not, and this may have been due to the silicone mould i poured the resin into. They were high shine when they came out of the mould, making it more difficult for them to take any colour. I managed to paint them with skin illustrator as other paint methods would rub off as I tried to manouver the tooth.

-Original teeth I used for sculpting

Using Skin illustrator, I painted in red, brown and yellow tones to bring the teeth to life.

Using red tones, i made them appear sore which will match the skin they break out of.

I used yellow and brown tones to create a striped tooth effect. The yellow was useful as a base colour to minimise the white of the resin.

I was happy with the outcome of these and will use them in my practice makeup as I know they fit the appliance.

Polymorph is a plastic which melts in boiling water, once the white beads are completely transparent, it is then removed from the water and ready to mould. To make these teeth suitable I tried to use the original mould i used to make the teet I sculpted with. This will ensure that they fit if I choose to use them.

As I had to squash the material into the mould, i found that once hardened and removed from the mould, there were a few creases where the plastic had been stuffed into the mould. If I were able to control how this happens, it may have been an effective method of texturing the teeth. However, once painted, I didnt like the finish as much as I did the Fast Cast resin ones. Also these teeth were very white in comparison, and I felt that the resin ones had a more appropriate yellowish base colour for me to illustrate on top of with skin illustrator.
