Fibreglass core
Balancing sculpture on the human form
If you produce a head, you should produce it white or grey to preview the sculpture a lot clearer.

Flat neat base - makes it easier/ safer to handle, more stable. Neat and clean inside. Produce industry standard of work. Seams are clean and sanded down.

Face appears smooth as this means you won't get any locking points within the models detail. Out a sausage of clay between lips to make sure there's no harsh undercuts. Nostrils are blocked. Nose loves are smoother, decreased dept using clay. Car body filler to fill ear holes and deep detail. Unless it's a cast of an older (mature) person, you may need to keep their cast detail to enable you to do an ageing makeup.

Try out complex makeups with clay to see what it would look like and how it would work. Dark shadows- lots of design sculpted on a half scale bust, sculpted by don landing.

Making a makette will help you to our design into perspective. Try to make one. Using a bust, sculpt your design onto it. Help you develop idea with an accurate representation.

Unseen work for dark shows - Sculptural art of Sebastian Lockman.

Box of eyes, helpful for inspiring character makeup. Polyurethane eyes (white blanks)

Animatronic makeups - tall hell boy statue from creaturegeddon

For quick roughing out use wed clay, quick.
Photograph and destroy multiple times until you get what you want.

Keep features of the human face to make it emotion for actor.
Pencil in guide lines of wrinkles, eye bags and nasolabial folds.

Can draw out a cling film template for features such as eye bags and sculpt on top so you know it fits. You can apply these separately on top of other appliances.

Space presynced. Neill gorton makeups half makeup half animatronic.

Balance chin with top of head.

Vac- formed eyes, filled with clay to be the same colour.
E.g of eyes. Pans labyrinth. Eyes on the 'pale man' has holes in his face makeup as he has no eyes. They're in his hands. Doug Jones

If you fibreglass wed clay, it's probably not useable anymore.

Rough out two a day, only need one half. Mirror it in Photoshop.

If the head is bigger,  the neck would probably be bigger, so add in muscles to balance out the creatures appearance. The shoulders help to balance the heavy top of head.

Gainsbourg - animatronics

Hansel and grettel animatronic giant

Kitanimboy- Chris clarks animatronic show reel

Need to add in anatomy to make it seem real. It's more believable if you have features you can relate to.

Predator is a good example of this. Human figure. Paint job is designed from tropical frogs- look into what textures in the forest could be used on my own creatures skin.

Look at dark souls for inspiration

Using aerated kidney to blend all lumps and bumps together. Then Check symmetry. Then refine again with wire wrapped tool.

Add in more detailed layer of wed clay on top. Ensuring symmetry.

As This mister will be in foam, to make it fine, fibreglass Mould the monster and inside they

National fibre technology - make fur any length and colour

Areas of calm- a space on acres tire which is smooth and simple. Such as aliens smooth top of head.

Test hair styles on dolly head, as you would makeups in clay on a bust

Can print out clay deigns and colour it by hand with different combinations, or try photoshop.

If fibreglassing wed clay:
Release to seal moisture into clay:
Shellac
Gloss

-Spatula

Showreel:
Music at suitable pace

Sculpting Workshop - Wayne Humphreys

28/10/15

Wayne Humphrey demonstrated the beginning of producing a creature design. Here he demonstrated the process of making a creature hand.

As this creature will have two fingers and a thumb, the hand has been cast (using herculite: very strong plaster)bwith the index and middle finger together and the ring finger with the little finger, allowing them to be sculpted as one finger.

This also means that when the actor wers thispiece, their fingers will remain in this position.

To ensure the the clay doesnt dry put and the plaster doesnt absorb all of its mosture, the arm and clay are regularly sprayed to ensure it's easier to work with and wont start to dry and crack off. By sculpting in WED clay, the process is much faster as it is wet, its seasier to move and mannipulate. It is also easier to demould.

Helpful tips:

-use silicone oil to keep hairpunching quick  and smooth

-Finger nails can be made of Acrylic of PT    Flex - i looked into this but it was too  expensive

-MEdicil is a sculptable silicone putty which can also be used inside the body, as it is a medical grade silicone
