Cats was another production with many bespoke wigs, tailored to each character. One in particular was a wig built on top of a helmet, to ensure that health and afety measure were met, as this particular Cat was expected to be fired up through the stage trap door.

The Rumpus cat was the character which was designed by the props department, with a helmet beneath the wig. This was introduced into the show around 1990.

Bespoke Postiche

When Making postiche pieces, designing them is acrucial part to ensure you know how they work. The consstruction of the wig will determine how stable the pice will be if it is a large eig.

An example of a large wig which was in fact impractical, was the 'Diva's' wig in Phantom of the Opera.

Makeup and hair stylist, John Henry Gordon was responsible for Minnie Drivers wig for her role as Carlotta in The Phantom of the Opera

For specialist practice, I will look into creating a character who may require hair work, to give me the opportunity to create a bespoke hairpiece or wig.

When thinking about my design I considered how ahirwork could be used within my design, as a reult, I am going to experiment with making a hair piece and a front piece. These pieces will be separate as the foundation pice I will make will sit down my models hair in a centre parting, on which I will weft long lengths of hair to dramatically eloongate her hair.

The front piece will be saeparate and made from wig lace, as the application must be invisible to sit next to a prosthetic face piece.

Hair Frames & Avant garde

Hair frame piece from a 'Queen Elizabeth' themed look.

-basket weave hair

-ribbon wraped frame

-Avant Garde style

-cushioning and lightweight padding

A wire frame with foundation net attached on top. This piece has a mic sock in the top to hold the microphone.

This was a method which enabled you to create sheets of hair to work with, especially for layering up underneath.

This was piece Sarah Marks made, which was a complicated wig base as the was nowhere to hade a foundation net, as all of the points needed to be in wig lace, so they could blend in when applied to the model.

Bespoke postiche practice

Thos was a rough drawing and template of how the postice foundation would be made for someone with hair only around the sides, like a monk cut.
