Running prop in Silicone
-pigmented silicone, skin colour
-silicone paint: fat, tissue, blood
After cleaning out the moulds, I brushed in vaseline in preparation to release the cap plastic which I then sprayed in on top.
I then painted in a layer of silicone on each side of the mould. This allowed me to create a thin skin in which I could pain in details with silicone paints. The other side which replicates skin, I painted in a thicker layer of skin pogmented silicone. Once these had cured, I closed the moulds and injected some lightly pigmented silicone to fill the mould. I tried to use a substantial amount of deadner to ensure I achieved an organic property when the piece was handled.
Once removed from the mould, I began to enhance the colours i had pre painted and colour any areas nescessary. Working in layers, I painted in a coverage layer and then sealed using cab-o-sil. I then continued to paint finer details, highlights, and depth to the piece. I repeated this process until I was satisfied with the paint job.
For a final touch, I decided to mix up some blood and denture powder to create an organic fluid from the wound. This helped also tog ive more depth in areas, with use of a 3D material. This was useful to thin out over some areas, as this made the piece look like there were tiny blood vessels spread over certain areas.
Overall I was pleased with this prop, however next time I would increase the amount of deadner used ot make it more realistically organic when held. I wanted it to be able to hang appropriately from my models hand.
