Prop Making - Fat Anatomy

I struggled to find any previous makeups or techniques used y makeup artists to create fat replias. So instead I turned to a scientific anatomy search which produced accurate replcas of fat and muscle.

For my piece, as it is for an advert, I have decided to meet the criteria of a prop for film. This means that my prop will be a detailed piece which I will spend time over creating. The subtle details are picked up on camera, so a careful paint job is important for film.

To create a successful prop, I have considered how it will appear, as if it were too complex, the viewer would not have to question what the prop is and its purpose. I kept my design for my prop simple, but accurate so it still achieves a lifelike appearance.

In television, the making porcess is quick and has a wide variety as new props will be required on a weekly basis. They will also have a similar life span of those in theatre, as they will need to be reused and stored away.

I sculpted all of the texture required into the Le Beau touche, this meant that i would not have to change my prop or add anything to it once I had ran my moulds.

However, once the prop is moulded and ran, I could add materials on top to add different texture i may not have been able to achieve witht sculpting. I could also use tools on the propr material itself to creat textures.

Alternative Experimentation

Using equal parts of A+B Pro Gel Silicone, at a total of 20g I mixed these together using two yellow tones of oil paint.

I was pleased witht the colour intensity and thought it produced a perfect colour for the fatty tone I wanted to achieve.

The idea behind this was to use a mass of pigmented silicone and use this alone, as the fat prop I have designed.

I decided to go against this idea as it wasnt as easy as I thought to mannipulate it to look the way I wanted. So alternatively, I am going to sculpt my fat prop and create a two piece fibreglass mould in which I can paint in a thick layer osilicone, and fill the cor wit gelatine, as this is considerably cheaper than using pure silicone.
