Fibreglassing - Hip Cores
-Gel Coat
-Lay-up resin
-Fine surface tissue
-chop strand matting
To clean up the pieces to make them safer and neater, I used the vibrosaw to cut off eccess fibreglass.
Using 200g of Gel coat, I added blue pigment to help differenciate between my pieces. I catalysed this at 2% by 4ml. This Gel coat layer is left to go tacky as it is the layer which icks up all of the detail in the cast.
Once The detail layer is tacky, 300g of lay up resin is catalysed by 2% at 6ml. This is then brushed on to the fine tissue layer and brushed into the cast. This layer is repeated using chopped matting.
I then used snadpaper to get rid of any rough edges which may catch or splinter. This also makes it easier to handle the mould.

In order to release my mould for my prop, I iused this PVA to release the clay wall I built, to stop the clay from inhibiting the resin.
I found that this was the best method to avoid the layers at the edge of the mould, from splitting and creating airbubbles which create an undeven surface.
