Tutorials & Workshops

Initially, my ideas were based around e ide of 'trapped'. This lead me to my three characters:
-Age - trapped inside an older body

-Mask - Age, older face underneath

-Abuse - Snow White, 7 dwarves abused by her

Presentation

From my presentation, it was suggested that I broaden my umbrella theme. I decided to focus on issues in society instead, which gave me more freedom with my designs.

I also had to dismiss my 'Snow White' idea as this is already an existing concept.

After discussing my idea changes, it was decided that my idea of 'Weight' would be enough to support 40 credits of work.

Within this I would have to cast my models rib' hip area from one side and the hip/ stomach area from the opposing side. From these separate casts, I will be able to create a fibreglass mould for each to sculpt accurate weight / wounds onto.

I will also create a fat/ flesh prop for my model to be holding. This will have to match up with the colours and textures of the wound on the body.

I also have the option to combine my 'Abuse' design with this as this could be the reason my subject is distressed about weight.

I wanted to use Foam Latex to produce the fat prosthetics, and silicone to produce my would apliance.

After having another tutorial with Laura, we discussed that my makeup wouldn't be enough to support 40 credits worth of work.

A wig was suggested to bulk up my body of work along side some flat pieces, and body paint.

The wig will be half knotted completed, to look luxurious and healthy, and the other will be incomplete to look patchy to recreate the impression fo bald patches.

More research was required to back up my theme of Anorexia. Within this research I was suggested to look more into waht happens to the bdoy when starved, linking this to cultures such as Africa, where many are starved, not by their own choice.

I took forward these ideas from my previous tutorial and felt that this was to much to take on. To overcome this and get another perspective, I had a tutorial with Pete to discuss any alternative ideas as a wig was not doable at this point so close to handin. We agreed to add more complexity to my existing prosthetics to make sure this was enough to meet a 40 credit expectation. This alternative also reflects my specialism, as it will remain prosthetic based with both the body and hair designs.

To make my makeup more complex, we discussed filling my exising hip wound with skin sculp so this skin layer is able to be peeled out as a visual effect as I am filming my final makeup.
