Casting - Models hips

-GO-CAST Lifecasting Silicone

-MOD-ROC

To cast my models hips, I weighed out equal amounts of part A + B of 150g each, giving me a total of 300g to do both casts.

I used lifecasting silicone as I can fibreglass straight into the cast to create my core. This will also allowe me to create multiple cores if needed.

I first applied a thin layer of the complete area i wanted on both sides of my models torso. I then built up a thicker layer on top to make the cast more sturdy and durable to avoid any ripping when removing the cast from my model once cured.

I then applied strips of MOD-ROC to support the silicone, to hold its shape when fibreglassing. I was pleased with the outcome of these pieces as they came out perfectly for what I wanted. I also enusred I covered a larger area than wanted to make sure I had enough room to sculpt.

Alginate would have been a longer process as i would have to take a plaster mould of the silicone and recreate the negative before being able to fibreglass into it. Although a silicone can be painted into the new negative, and fibreglass can then be lay into this negative to create the core which was originally wanted.

As an alternative, i could have used FlexWax but instead I used life casting silicone as I already knew how to use this and have previously used it successfully.

I chose to use life casting silicone as I can immediately fibreglass into the silicone cast, and if needed, re-use the silicone to create more cores from it.
