Sculpting - character 1

TEXTURES

I looked at textures of food for inspiration when sculpting the brain detail. I found that Walnuts and Ricecakes gave interesting textures.

To sculpt my makeup, I began with blocking out shapes to balance the sculpt and achieve a symmetrical form. Whilst sculpting I realised that no matter how far down I took the brain, the depth was still too much to create the illusion that the brain is his own, and not on top of his head. I decided to balance the sculpt by adding to his chin. brow and jaw, to give the impression of a larger head and face.

I wanted to keep the edges fo the metal plates as crisp and sharp as possible. I thought that I would mould this sculpt as a two part mould. Using shim I would divide the sculpt directly down the center.

Alternatively for the face, I could float these sculpts off and run them separately in silicone on another fibreglass core.
