Anatomy of the Human Brain

These are the primary area for processing visual stimuli. This are is also called the visual cortex, which is split into amy subdivisions, each with a different processing role. When the image is first processed, cells of motion and colour sensitivity create a regognition in the brain.

The Temporal Lobes appear on both sides of the brain these process auditory stimuli, such as sounds and language and some aspects of memory. They are responsible for allowing us to communicate and gives us information for survival. These too have subdivisions which link to other areas of the brain, allowing us to recognise what we are hearing.

The Somatosensory cortex plays a similar role, as it is responsible to receiving information from the neurons in the body, such as the finger tips to then register this as pain etc.

The Parietal Lobes are responsible for enabling the brain to receive sensory information such as touch and temperature. REceptors in sensitive areas such as tongue, lips and throat have a larger area in the Parietal lobes as they are the most sensitive.

The Frontal Lobes occupy nearly 30% of the cortex. There are two parts to these, one is sensorimotor processing and the other, cognition. They allow us to be consciously be aware of all thoughts and actions.

The Motor Cortex is responsible for the planning, control and execution of movements we choose to make.

pig Brain

I sourced this pig brain form the butchers so I could get a more accurate reference for what my head piece should look like.

The texture of the brain was very soft, and almost sank when left on a flat surface.

The colour was a very pale pink with intense pink/ red veins.

To achieve the wet, gooey texture on top, I could look at sort of lacquer of which will need to be flexible to enusre it doesnt crack when being applied as this whole area would be pre-painted.

Medulla

The medulla or medulla oblongata is an essential portion of the brain stem which maintains vital body functions such as the heart rate and breathing.
